How U(2) Can Help Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria

Bono still hasn't found what he's looking for, so he's kindly requesting that you add one more person to your holiday card list this year: President Barack Obama. Well, actually his organization ONE is asking you, but mentioning Bono allows me to litter this story with song titles just for the hell of it.

Click here to send a greeting “card” requesting that the president support the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria in his fiscal year 2011 budget request to Congress. How much support, you ask? $1.75 billion; all of which helps get AIDS drugs, anti-malaria bed nets and TB treatment to people who would otherwise go without. And there are a lot of them. Since 2001 the Global Fund has saved 4.9 million lives in 140 countries.

Even better, for every $1 that the U.S. invests, its international partners provide at least $2 to help treat these deadly but treatable diseases. That's considerable bang for the U.S. taxpayer buck. So while we're doing this with or without you, it would be great if you could send a letter before New Year's Day so we can get some silver and gold to those who need it most. It could be a beautiful day for them, and all because of you. (OK, I'm done now).
