Spend a Penny

It's back-to-school time, and I'm sad to report that even MDG can't keep the inevitable end-of-summer blues at bay. In the spirit of turning lemons into lemonade and defining clouds by their silver linings, however, we can report a nifty new promotion from JC Penney that will effortlessly generate much-needed charity dollars for a few priceless after-school programs.

The mega-retailer recently launched its “Pennies from Heaven” campaign, which asks customers to round up their change to the nearest dollar on their purchases. JC Penney hopes to raise $1 million in pennies, dimes, nickels and quarters for programs including The Boys and Girls Club of America, the YMCA, the United Way, F.I.R.S.T. and the 4-H.
