Hero Worship

That Anderson Cooper is a very busy man.  Between his reporting and anchoring duties for CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360, his syndicated daytime talk show Anderson Live, and his New Year’s Eve gig with Kathy Griffin, he still finds time every year to celebrate a few heroic individuals in the world. Which brings me to the point of this post. There’s still time to nominate an everyday hero who’s doing great things in the world.

You’ve got about a week – August 31 - to submit someone (over 13) whose heroic deeds fit into one of the following categories:

Championing Children: Commitment to the welfare of young people
Community Crusader: Creating solutions to a local problem or social issue
Defending the Planet: Innovative efforts to preserve and protect the environment
Medical Marvel: Dedication to the enhancement of human health
Protecting the Powerless: Advancing the cause of human or equal rights
Other: Use this category if your hero's cause doesn't fit into one of those above

As in past years, competition is quite fierce, but the prize is also very high. Ten finalists will pocket $50,000 and one hero will take home $250,000. Every finalist be honored by a slew of celebrities - including the handsome host/anchor- on a fancy CNN program. Click here to nominate your hero.
