Make a Difference Day

If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, I may have just the plan: volunteer to make a difference during the 22nd annual “Make a Difference Day” (Saturday, October 27). Co-sponsored by USA WEEKEND Magazine and Points of Light, the nation’s largest day of community service offers thousands of charitable projects you can help, including “Providing Socks for the Less Fortunate” in San Francisco, “Shopping on Lake” in Chicago, and “Food for All” in Washington, D.C.

And to prove that no good deed should go unnoticed (or unpunished), Newman’s Own will award $10,000 each to the charities of 13 different volunteer efforts, a grand total of $130,000. Thank you, Mr. Newman!
