Take Your Place

A Place at the Table is at the top of my “go-see” list. Brought to you by the creative souls behind Food Inc, the new documentary follows the lives of three people who struggle with food insecurity. Barbie, a young Philadelphia mother of two, fights to make ends meet and break the cycle of poverty. Rosie, an imaginative fifth-grader, tries to distract herself from hunger pangs as she grows up in rural Colorado. Tremonica, a bright Mississippi second-grader, struggles with health issues caused by the poor nutritional value of the food her mother provides.

With insights from a variety of experts including author Raj Patel, Top Chef’s Tom Colicchio and actor/activist Jeff Bridges, the film shines a spotlight on the harsh reality that nearly 50 million people in the United States don’t know where their next meal is coming from.

Go to table to learn what progress has been made against hunger in the past, and what we all can do now to end it in the future.
